Two men, suspected of hacking an internet service provider (ISP) and servers hosting government websites, have been arrested by police in Australia.
On Wednesday, The Guardian reported that the Australian Federal Police (AFP) apprehended the men in Perth and Sydney after searching their homes.
One of the unnamed men, aged 40, was charged with aiding the unauthorized modification of Melbourne IT's computer network, as well as the unauthorized modification of government web servers. The other, aged 18, was charged with unauthorized modification of data belonging to NetSpeed ISP, and unauthorized access to and modification of restricted data belonging to another targeted organization, ACT Long Service Leave Board, The Guardian revealed.
Through the hacks, the men were allegedly able to steal personal data, deface websites and launch distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks against corporate and government entities over the past two years.
Both are scheduled for Thursday court appearances.
