The entity known as Guccifer 2.0 published internal Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) documents that provide detail into a re-districting effort in Florida that the hacker says shows congressional primaries are “becoming a farce.”
Earlier this month, ThreatConnect Research and Fidelis Cybersecurity said the DCCC hack appeared to be related to the Fancy Bear group, an advanced persistent threat (APT) group with links to Russian intelligence groups has also been tied to the Democratic National Committee (DNC) intrusions.
The release follows a separate batch of documents that were provided to The Hill by Guccifer 2.0 on Friday that included personal details such as names, Social Security numbers and other private information of Democratic donors. The same day, Wordpress blocked access to documents posted on the Guccifer 2.0's Wordpress blog. A notice on the blogging site stated, “Some content on this page was disabled on August 13, 2016 upon receipt of a valid complaint regarding the publication of private information.”
The incident occurred as Guccifer 2.0's Twitter account was also suspended, albeit temporarily. WikiLeaks tweeted on Saturday, “‘@Guccifer_2' has account completely censored by Twitter after publishing some files from Democratic campaign #DCCC”.
The following day, the account was re-instated and reappeared with this announcement: “#Guccifer2 Here I am! They'll have to try much harder to block me! #DNCleak #dccchack”Previously leaked information included private information of business executives and celebrities, including SpaceX and Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk, Jeffrey Katzenberg, David Geffen, Magic Johnson, Tom Hanks and Rob Reiner, among others.
