Trident Capital Cybersecurity took the lead in a $32.5 million round of Series A funding for IronNet Cybersecurity, a startup founded by former National Security Agency (NSA) Director Keith Alexander.
IronNet, which consists of cybersecurity experts from NSA, U.S. Cyber Command, National Counterterrorism Center and Army Intelligence will use the funds to accelerate the growth of products aimed at providing network visibility, data control, and security.
Trident Capital Cyber, whose founder and managing director Don Dixon sits on the IronNet board of directors, was joined in the funding by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB). KPCB General Partner Ted Schlein also will join the board.
IronNet's arrangement with agency Chief Technology Officer Patrick Dowd to work part-time for the company prompted the NSA to conduct an internal review to determine if a conflict of interest existed, Reuters reported last year.
