Android malware app downloads exceed 2M

Five mobile apps on the Google Play Store with more than 2 million downloads have been identified as adware and information-stealing malware, reports BleepingComputer. One million of the downloads were for the PIP Pic Camera Photo Editor, a malware that seeks to exfiltrate users' Facebook account credentials, according to a report from Dr. Web. Facebook account credentials are also being targeted by the ZodiHoroscope - Fortune Finder and PIP Camera 2022 apps, which have been downloaded 500,000 times and 50,000 times, respectively. The report also showed that the Wild & Exotic Animal Wallpaper app, which has 500,000 downloads, serves as an adware trojan that automates batter-saving exceptions list inclusion. Another adware app, Magnifier Flashlight, which has been downloaded 10,000 times, provides static banner ads and videos, said researchers. Other adware and info-stealing malware apps discovered by Dr. Web last month have already been removed from the Google Play Store but users of the said apps have been urged to remove them and perform complete antivirus scans.
