Facebook to intro ThreatExchange platform

February 11, 2015

Social networking services like Pinterest, Twitter and Tumblr have begun offering their input to help Facebook launch a threat information sharing platform called ThreatExchange.

In a Wednesday announcement, Facebook revealed that the API-based platform was built on the existing Facebook platform infrastructure. According to the company, Yahoo is also among the companies that helped early on, while Bitly and Dropbox recently signed on as new contributors.

“Threat data is typically freely available information like domain names and malware samples, but for situations where a company might only want to share certain indicators with companies known to be experiencing the same issues, built-in controls make limited sharing easy and help avoid errors by using a pre-defined set of data fields,” Facebook said of its coming service.

A website has been set up for those interested in participating in Facebook's beta version of ThreatExchange.
