NFL players’ medical records stolen from Washington trainer

The NFL recently informed its players that thousands of electronic and paper medical records were stolen from the car of a Washington football team athletic trainer in late April.

On May 27, NFL Players Association (NFLPA) Executive Director DeMaurice Smith sent each team's player representative a letter alerting them of the incident and said the NFLPA has consulted with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services concerning the issue, according to Deadspin.

Smith said in the letter that the records were stored on a password protected, unencrypted laptop and included those of NFL Combine attendees from the last 13 years and a few of records of current Washington players.

The Washington team, NFL and NFLPA are working to notify the players who may have been impacted and are taking steps to prevent future incidents.
