Hulu won against a legal challenge that claimed the company violated users' privacy by sharing what they watched on the site with Facebook.
After a four-year litigation, a federal judge ruled that Hulu did not “knowingly” send information to the social media company to pair with users' profiles and distribute online, The Hill reported.
The proposed class action lawsuit began when users said their Facebook accounts updated every time they clicked a “Like” button next to a Hulu video, which the challengers claimed was a violation of the federal Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA).
In this case, Facebook's cookies were to blame for the sharing, as they linked users up with their Facebook accounts as long as they had been logged into the social network in the previous four weeks.
