Reddit revealed in its first transparency report, released Thursday, that in 2014, it received 55 requests for user information and supplied some information in 32 instances.
The online community website said the requests came from 15 U.S. states and included both state and local government agencies. A gag order accompanied 30 percent of government requests. The website also reported that it has never received a National Security Letter.
Additionally, the transparency report touched on the 218 requests for the removal of user data that the site received. The majority of the removal requests, 81 percent, related to copyright infringement and often pertained to links users shared on the site. Of the 176 submitted copyright removal requests, Reddit obliged in 66 instances.
Some requests also involved claims of alleged defamation, and of the 33 requests received, no content was removed.
