Skimming con drains pension of retired officer in Philippines

Nearly all of a retired policewoman's retirement fund was drained as a result of an ongoing skimming incident in the Philippines, a report from the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) revealed.  According to the outlet, the scam was brought to light by the Philippines' National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) via a warning to the public on the growing incidence of ATM skimming fraud.

Last Friday, the retired cop, identified as Chief Inspector Anna, reached out to NBI after most of her pension, totaling nearly 400,000 PHP (or $9,107) , was stolen through fraudulent withdrawals, ANC said. The policewoman reportedly became aware of the transactions in early 2013, inciting her to bring her concerns to Central Bank, then to the NBI for help.

It is still undetermined whether the retired officer will recover the stolen funds.
