The Shadow Brokers drop auction, now asking for 10K bitcoins for NSA hacking tools

The Shadow Brokers is finding that its claim to have stolen the National Security Agency's (NSA) hacking tools is a tough sell with the hacking group being forced to change its sale methodology.

The group, which in August said it accessed a treasure trove of NSA tools, is no longer auctioning the content off to the highest bidder, but instead will post the content once its crowdfunding project receives 10,000 bitcoins, or about $6.4 million, according to The Hill.

“The Shadow Brokers is being bored with auction so no more auction. Auction off. Auction finish. Auction done. No winners,” wrote the Brokers in their announcement released Saturday, The Hill reported.

The auction did not gain any traction, perhaps due to The Shadow Brokers decision to award the code to a single winner and not refund the losing bids.
