Looking to bolster its identity and access management portfolio, Computer Associates International will acquire security software maker Netegrity in a cash deal valued at approximately $430 million.
Subject to regulatory and Netegrity shareholder approval, the acquisition is expected to close in the next 90 days.
By adding "the best web security product on the market" to its portfolio, CA "significantly strengthens" its position in the identity and access management market, CA CEO Kenneth Cron said in a prepared statement.
Netegrity's products include SiteMinder, an access management solution for web-based and enterprise applications, and TransactionMinder, a system to secure access to web services. CA offers eTrust Identity and Access Management Suite.
"Suites of products that are well integrated and have all the necessary IAM (identity and access management) functionality provide the answer to many of our customers' concerns," said Russ Artz, CA executive vice president for eTrust Solutions.
Netegrity's operations will be integrated with CA's eTrust Identity and Access Management Group. CA expects that most of Netegrity's 400 employees will join CA, based in Islandia, N.Y. Netegrity was based in Waltham, Mass.
Prat Moghe, president and founder of Maynard, Mass.-based security firm Tizor Systems, said the acquisition demonstrates the "maturity phase" of the identity and access management market. "Netegrity was the 'last' big independent startup" in that space, he noted.
