China's U.S. ambassador warned that any sanctions imposed against China over the alleged hacking of American businesses could negatively impact Chinese President Xi Jinping's upcoming Washington visit.
According to CNN, the White House is on the verge of implementing sanctions against China. This news came just weeks before Xi's first official state visit to the United States that begins on Sept. 22.
"This means that China and the U.S. have every reason to conduct more communications and cooperation in this regard, instead of moving towards conflict and confrontation I hope the U.S. side will make a smart choice,” China Daily quoted Chinese ambassador Cui Tiankai as saying.
The sanctions would be imposed in response to hacks of U.S. companies and not specifically as retaliation for the Office Of Personnel Management breach earlier this year that revealed personal data from 21.5 million government workers.
