Adopting chip cards and the EMV standard may be the answer in the United States following numerous retailer breaches involving point-of-sale malware. Target was relieved of roughly 40 million payment cards, which prompted CEO Gregg Steinhafel to make a push for the smart card technology already available in other countries, including Europe.
