Company news: New hires at Zscaler, ICANN, eCert; Diebold, CynergisTek partner

Zscaler, a cloud security provider, has appointed Lane Bess (left) chief operating officer. He resigned in December as CEO of Palo Alto Networks after leading the start-up maker of next-generation firewalls to $100 million in revenue and a positive cash flow. Before that, Bess served as executive vice president of global sales at Trend Micro.
 
Diebold, maker of self-service and security systems, has partnered with security and compliance provider CynergisTek to offer an integrated portfolio that caters to the health care industry. The suite will combine assessment, audit and technical remediation tools with managed security solutions to emphasize access control, risk management, data protection and incident response.
 
Jeff Moss, the founder of Black Hat who now serves as the conference chairman, has been appointed CSO of the Internet Corp. for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), a group responsible for managing IP address spaces. He was hired because of his experience as a hacker and understanding of the threat landscape.
 
eCert, provider of email fraud protection solutions, has hired Erik Johnson (right) as chief technology officer. The former SVP of enterprise technologies at Bank of America, Johnson will be tasked with overseeing eCert's technology offerings and work to develop standards within the industry.
 
FireMon, provider of firewall and security management solutions, has acquired Saperix Technologies. The deal includes patented risk analysis software developed by MIT Lincoln Laboratory, a federally funded research and development center. The software measures enterprise network risk by charting the most critical threats, such as zero-day attacks, and rates potential countermeasures.

Verdasys, provider of data leakage prevention products, has received $15 million in venture capital funding from GE Pension Trust, advised by GE Asset Management. The investment will allow Verdasys to grow its portfolio to cover mobile devices and the cloud, as well as enable the company to expand its team and distribution channels.

The Open Group, a vendor-neutral organization whose mission is to enable information access based global interoperability, has announced a new IT security standard. The Security Management Maturity Model (O-ISM3) enables organizations to create security systems that are aligned with their business mission and compliance needs, regardless of size, context and resources.

Vasco, provider of strong authentication and e-signature solutions, has acquired Netherlands-based Alfa & Ariss, an open identity and access management firm, for $1.4 million. The deal relates to Vasco's January acquisition of Dutch public key infrastructure services provider DigiNotar, whose authentication gateway server was created in cooperation with Alfa & Ariss.
