Winner: Thomas Dunbar, global CSO, XL Capital
Thomas Dunbar is the global CSO of XL Capital, a leading multinational insurance company, who also was promoted to senior vice president in 2005.
He manages worldwide security for XL, which includes managing compliance to privacy and security regulations, country by country. He has been instrumental in bringing innovative new security technologies to XL, and for implementing a security infrastructure designed to meet the company's security needs while also streamlining business processes.
"I took a Fortune 500 company with no security posture to one with a solid defense-in-depth structure. This included the creation and implementation of policies and standards, security architecture, perimeter protection, network forensics, vulnerability assessment and user training and awareness," he says.
While developing and continually strengthening XL's IT security infrastructure, Dunbar also received his Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) designation from the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) and maintained his Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification from (ISC)2 through
attendance at various industry conferences.
