Deepnet Security Unified Authentication Platform v3.4
Strengths: Easy to deploy and manage at an attractive price point.
Weaknesses: Reporting lagged and there is no support in this version for Vasco tokens
Verdict: A good value for the money and a nice enterprise solution.
SummaryDeepnet Unified Authentication Platform v3.4 is a single, unified authentication system designed to provide strong two-factor and mutual two-way authentication for different types of applications and different groups of users. The single integrated platform is used for provisioning, managing and verifying all types of user and host authentication methods. It is also capable of managing various types of authentication tokens, including one-time passwords, biometrics, smart cards, device authentication and website authentication.
The authentication server consists of six server components: authentication, communication, connection, management, database and directory. The authentication server installs with MySQL, but can use an existing SQL database that needs to be pre-configured prior to install. The installation was very simple. It's a single file load followed by an easy-to-use, browser-based configuration process. Templates were supplied for email, SMS and OTP messages.
The tool offered LDAP integration, centralized user management, web-based administration, multiplatform support and audit trail features. It is a complete solution for strong user authentication that is very user-friendly and easy to integrate into an existing IT infrastructure. The server software was also supported on both MS Windows Server and Linux operating systems.
We did not test with any Vasco tokens, but found a reference in the release notes stating that the support of VASCO DigiPass is removed from this version. If you are currently using VASCO DigiPass, do not upgrade to this version. This will be something to review closely if you already possess VASCO tokens.
Reporting and logging were somewhat lacking. The supplemental documentation we were provided stated that enhanced reporting and user self-password reset support would be included in version 4.0.
Documentation was detailed and complete. Support is only provided for the first month. After that it is on a fee basis ranging from 17.5 to 30 percent per annum.
The solution was easy to install and manage, easy to use and provided good support for token and authentication options. The price is very attractive for environments large or small.
