Details leaked on 71K Minecraft World Map users

Troy Hunt, an Australian researcher, tweeted out a warning of a dump of some 71,000 user accounts leaked from MinecraftWorldMap.com, a fan website for the popular online game Minecraft, according to The Register.

Exposed are email addresses, IP address data, usernames and passwords, although login passwords were salted and hashed. No mention of the incursion is made on the Minecraft World Map site and no further details were disclosed.

The hack is said to have occurred in January, yet Hunt's is the first notification. More than half of the breached accounts were already exposed and documented on Haveibeenpwned, a site run by Hunt as a credential repository.

MinecraftWorldMap.com is a go-to destination for Minecraft gamers as a supplement to their game play. The site allows "the community to share Worlds from the game Minecraft."

Users are advised to reset passwords, particularly if they are duplicated on other sites.
