A software programmer pleaded guilty today in federal court to hacking into the network of his former employer, a high-voltage power supplies manufacturer, to wreak havoc, including sending a message to a candidate for his former position in the unnamed firm and deleting code so that the company would incorrectly calculate work order costs.
According to the FBI, Michael Meneses left his job as a software programmer and system manager in January 2012 after being passed over for promotions but not before creating an unauthorized program to harvest employees' logins and passwords.
After his departure, he used credentials to get into the network and disrupt business and otherwise inflict damage on the company's operations.
Meneses, who will be sentenced on July 7, faces up to a decade in prison and may have to pay restitution and a fine.
