Apple’s Safari update addresses 27 vulnerabilities

Apple's update to Safari 7.0.3 and 6.1.3 on Tuesday addressed 27 security issues in the WebKit that impacted OS X Lion 10.7.5, OS X Lion Server 10.7.5, OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5, and OS X Mavericks 10.9.2.

All but one of the fixes allowed for arbitrary code execution or application termination should a malicious site be visited, according to the Apple security notification, which explains that several memory corruption issues existing in the WebKit were improved by better memory handling.

The final issue, also impacting the aforementioned operating systems, enabled an attacker already running arbitrary code in the WebProcess to read arbitrary files outside the sandbox restrictions, according to the post, which explains this is a logic issue in the way IPC messages are handled by the WebProcess and was fixed through “additional validation of IPC messages.”
