All Android users could soon benefit from a new Facebook security tool after the tech giant has decided to share it with the open-source community.
Known as Conceal, the tool encrypts the private data of users that's saved on SD cards while allowing them to “move some of the data storage needs of the app to the expandable SD card,” according to a post by Facebook on Github.
Certain Android apps designed to be download on the phone's SD card have permission to read and write on the card as well as access all of the private data stored on it.
This could lead to issues if a malicious application is downloaded by mistake, which would give it the ability to access private data on the card. Conceal is currently running on the primary Facebook app.
