Farm equipment and services provider Precision Planting, an Illinois-based subsidiary of chemical and agricultural biotechnology corporation Monsanto, is notifying customers that unauthorized access was gained to their personal information.
The breach impacted as many as 1,300 customers, according to Bloomberg.
Unauthorized access was gained to Precision Planting servers that stored the data, which included names, addresses, tax identification numbers, Social Security numbers and financial account information, as well as information on W2 tax forms, such as driver's license numbers.
A forensics firm, as well as law enforcement, is aiding in an investigation, Reuben Shelton, senior counsel, wrote in the notification letter, adding that all impacted individuals are being offered a free year of credit monitoring and identity theft protection services.
The breach was discovered on March 27.
