Data on reported 2.7M HSBC Turkey customers compromised in attack

The card and linked account numbers, card expiry dates and cardholder names of HSBC Turkey customers was compromised in an attack identified in the past week, according to a FAQ issued by HSBC.

Roughly 2.7 million customers were impacted, reports indicate.

“Our cards are secure and customers can continue to use their cards as usual,” according to the FAQ, which goes on to add that customers need not take any action.

The compromised information cannot be used to make transactions through internet banking or telephone banking, or to print cards and withdraw money from ATMs, and it is not possible to commit fraud with the linked account number, according to the FAQ.

HSBC immediately implemented enhanced security measures upon learning of the incident, the FAQ indicates, adding investigations are ongoing.
