Hackers leverage ColdFusion flaw in Citroën breach

A German website of French car manufacturer Citroën was hacked, resulting in the theft of customer information.

A company spokesman indicated that an investigation is under way and those affected by the breach have been contacted, according to a report by The Guardian.

After planting malware on shop.citroen.de, an online store where fans of Citroën can purchase merchandise, attackers were able to maintain backdoor access to the compromised network, allowing them to siphon the data. Citroën removed the malware, which was active since August 2013, after The Guardian and Alex Holden, CISO at Hold Security, disclosed the brief.

Holden believes that the miscreants behind the attack are the same criminal collective responsible for other hacks on Adobe, the National White Collar Crime Center and the J.M. Smucker Company, in which the saboteurs leveraged a flaw in Adobe's ColdFusion to compromise information.

[An earlier version of this story has been updated to indicate that Citroën is a French car manufacturer.]
