Malware used to compromise payment cards at Wendy’s restaurant in Michigan

Customers who paid with credit and debit cards at the South State Street Wendy's in Big Rapids, Michigan may have had those payment cards compromised, according to a statement from local Wendy's franchisees that was emailed to SCMagazine.com on Monday.

The perpetrator, which initial information suggests resides in Russia, remotely installed malware on the restaurant's server, according to a Big Rapids Department of Public Services report also emailed to SCMagazine.com on Monday.

The issue was resolved on July 15, and patrons who ordered from the location roughly one month prior to that day may have been impacted, the statement indicates. The location has installed new computers and software as a result, the report adds.

Hundreds of people have been affected so far, according to a 9&10 News report.
