More states look into Experian co. breach exposing 200 million records

Shortly after Connecticut and Illinois launched an investigation over an Experian subsidiary's data breach, more states confirmed they were looking into the matter. According to a Tuesday Reuters article, efforts are also underway in Iowa and North Carolina.

That day, an Iowa official told the outlet that his state had enlisted in the “multistate probe,” while a spokeswoman for North Carolina's Attorney General, Roy Cooper, said the office was gathering more information on the incident though an official investigation hadn't commenced.

The data breach, which struck Experian company, Court Ventures, is believed to have impacted more than 200 million records, after a Vietnamese national Hieu Minh Ngo paid the firm to access database information, including Social Security numbers, addresses, dates of birth and other consumer data.

The breach was made public last October by security journalist Brian Krebs.
