More than 125K impacted by Sysco data breach

Major U.S. multinational food distribution corporation Sysco has disclosed that 126,243 current and former employees may have had their sensitive data accessed and acquired following a cyberattack in January, reports The Record, a news site by cybersecurity firm Recorded Future. Sysco's systems were initially infiltrated on Jan. 14 but such an intrusion was only determined nearly two months later, said the company in data breach notification letters sent to impacted individuals. "While we cannot confirm at this time specifically what information may have been impacted for each individual colleague, we believe it could include some combination of the following data: personal information provided to Sysco for payroll purposes, including name, Social Security number, account numbers or similar information," noted Sysco, which added that the incident has not affected its operational systems, business functions, and customer services. Two years of free identity protection services are being offered by Sysco to people affected by the breach.
