Just a few days after President Obama said the U.S. would react proportionately to North Korea's likely role in the Sony breach, access to the internet within the country has been unstable the past 24 hours, according to the website North Korea Tech.
While network outages are not uncommon in North Korea – owing to failed routers or network maintenance – some experts speculate that this recent slowdown could be the consequence of a retaliatory strike.
After revelations last week that North Korea was likely behind a breach of Sony Pictures, President Obama had promised that the U.S. would respond.
Quoted on North Korea Tech, Doug Madory, director of internet analysis at U.S.-based Dyn Research, citing internet connectivity patterns, suggested the Asian nation might be "absorbing some sort of attack presently."
