Target to testify at government data security hearing

Target will testify at a data security hearing next month, following its massive data breach.

Along with law enforcement officials and other witnesses, the retail giant will discuss data breaches and their effect on consumers in front of the Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade subcommittee during the first week of February.

“By examining these recent breaches and their consequences on consumers, we hope to gain a better understanding of the nature of these crimes and what steps can be taken to further protect information and limit cyber threats,” said Chairman Lee Terry (R-Neb.) in a release.

Malware on the retail stores' point-of-sale devices compromised the card numbers, CVV numbers and encrypted pin codes of 40 million customers.
