The U.K.'s data security watchdog has disclosed a data breach it suffered in the last year.
In its recently released annual report, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) shared that it had experienced a “non-trivial data security incident” that “was treated as a self-reported breach” and was “investigated and treated no differently from similar incidents reported to us by others.”
After an investigation into the incident the ICO found that the “likelihood of damage or distress to any affected data subject was low,” and that it did not fall foul of the 1998 Data Protection Act. The report does not share specifics related to the breach.
According to The Times, which initially spotted the breach in the report, a spokesperson with the ICO said it would have to file a Freedom of Information request for further information on the incident.
