U.S. military database hacks impact about 16K in South Korea

Individuals employed by the United States military in South Korea may have had data compromised in a hacking incident, according to a Thursday AP report.

General Curtis Scaparrotti, commander of U.S. Forces in South Korea, announced on Thursday that the private information of about 16,000 current and former workers – the majority of whom are Korean nationals – could have been stolen from two databases. Individuals who sought employment may have been impacted, as well.

The information included names, contact information and work history, according to the report, which adds that classified military data was stored on a separate network and was not compromised.

North Korea has denied any involvement in the attack, according to the report, which cites Christopher Bush, a U.S. Forces spokesperson, as stating that a U.S. Army investigation is underway.
