Wichita schools investigates possible cyber attack

The Wichita, Kansas public school system is investigating a possible hacking attempt on one of its networks that took place on Oct. 23.

District Superintendent John Allison said in an email to the school's staff today that at this time it does not appear as if any student records were compromised. He added that the full extent of the potential breach is also not know, but school officials have notified law enforcement and are working with an outside cyber security firm to fully investigate the attempt.

Some of the school's computer systems have been taken offline while the probe takes place.

Wichita is the state's largest school district with 51,000 students and 5,000 employees, according to The Wichita Eagle.

Wichita joins a long list of school systems that have recently been hit with a cyber attack.
