Cloud migration producing security challenges, firms say

A survey conducted by Dimensional Research and released by Tripwire found that 98% of security professionals consider the increasing reliance of firms on multiple cloud providers has led to an increased proliferation of security challenges, and majority view current security efforts by providers as "just barely" proving adequate at ensuring data security for their customers, according to VentureBeat.

Of the 314 security professionals surveyed, 82% reported that their company uses Microsoft Azure as a cloud provider and 66% reported using Amazon Web Services, though 85% of firms who report they are mostly or fully in the cloud said they use AWS. Their reasons for relying on multiple public cloud services range from risk distribution, benefiting from pricing differences and requirements for support applications specific to certain providers.

The survey found that 59% of respondents use best-practice security frameworks but only 38% of those apply them consistently throughout their cloud environment. Additionally, only 21% reported having a centralized view of their enterprise's security posture throughout the range of their existing cloud accounts. Thus, 98% of providers are hoping that cloud providers enhance their security.
