IBM Security launches open platform for third-party developers

IBM's security and intelligence unit will begin working more closely with third-parties and outside developer. IBM is allowing its customers and partners to create custom applications on QRadar, the company's security analytics platform.

The security unit hopes its open platform will bring more cooperation and transparency to the corporate threat sharing process. The move is reminiscent of Salesforce's decision in November 2014 to turn AppExchange, its online platform for business applications, into an open platform for certified third-party developers.

In April, IBM launched its X-Force Exchange threat intelligence network. A month later, at IBM's Security Summit, CEO Ginni Rometty announced the launch of a threat database, providing “anonymous threat data from more than 4,000 organizations, which have contributed 300 new collections of data in the last month.”
