Anonymous calls for protests of piracy bill

The Anonymous hacking collective has called for a “worldwide internet and physical protest” against a controversial anti-copyright bill making its way through Congress. Supporters say The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) is designed to fight music and movie piracy by allowing the government to block access to any domestic or foreign website deemed to contain pirated content. Critics, however, argue such a move would effectively be a censoring of the open internet. “Go to every IRC network, every social network, every online community, and tell [the U.S. government] of the atrocity that is about to be committed,” Anonymous wrote in a notice posted to Pastebin.
