Hacktivist group Anonymous and the popular news-sharing site Reddit both have pledged to go offline on Wednesday in protest of the proposed Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), an anti-piracy measure that critics believe amounts to an internet censorship bill. Some are hoping other popular online destinations, including Wikipedia, Facebook and Google will follow suit. Wednesday's date coincides with a scheduled U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform on the proposed law, which some have said may also harm internet security. Anonymous said it won't tweet from any of its accounts on Wednesday.
