Facebook responds to European user privacy report

Following the release of a European report on Facebook's privacy practices, the company released a blog post retort on Wednesday.

“The report gets it wrong multiple times in asserting how Facebook uses information to provide our service to more than a billion people around the world,” Richard Allan, vice president of policy, Europe, wrote in the post.

Allan expanded on Facebook's practices and denied researchers' claims, including that the company doesn't respect people's decision to opt out of behavioral ads when not on the social media site. In this case, Facebook said it does honor users' decision and that the targeted ads aren't shown if a user chooses to opt out.

The company also refuted its use of location information by saying it doesn't store a history of users' precise locations unless permission is granted.
