Facebook to let users control ad preferences

Facebook users can control the advertisements they see using an ad preferences feature unveiled by the social media company on Thursday.

In recent months, Facebook has ramped up the amount of data it collects on users, gathering information on the brands they like, the advertisements they share and other behavior on the site. Consumers have long expressed both curiosity and dismay over the ads that Facebook chooses to display on their pages.

The new feature offers a “Why am I seeing this link?” link next to ads, lets users review their ad preferences as Facebook has defined them and then either add, delete or modify the information.

Amid growing concern over sharing user information, Facebook last month said it would let users limit how much information they revealed to third parties when logging on with Facebook credentials.
