Russia and China form cyber alliance

Russia and China signed a cyber security agreement Friday saying that neither would launch cyber attacks against the other.

Under the terms of the pact, the two nations will work together to combat technology that may “destabilize the internal political and socio-economic atmosphere,” texts of the agreement on the Russian government website said.

The two nations will also share law enforcement information and security technologies, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal. Sanctions against Russian from Europe and the U.S. have prompted Russian officials to look to the East for allies. China has also announced plans to enact national legislation that will make crimes like cyber theft and network attacks illegal.

Oleg Demidov, a cyber-security consultant at the PIR Center, told the WSJ “the alliance “will set a precedent for two global cyber security powers.”
