The lawyer of the corrupt Silk Road agent who pleaded guilty to stealing $820,000 in Bitcoin has asked to be removed from the case.
Davina Pujari, Shaun Bridges' third lawyer since his appeals process began in December 2015, filed a motion to withdraw as counsel because she “concluded that the accompanying appeal presents only legally frivolous issues,” according to court documents.
Before making the request, Pujari submitted a brief explaining the best possible issues that could be raised for Bridges appeal and asked the court to make an independent judgment from the brief, the documents said.
Earlier this year, Bridges was accused of having a private crypto key which allowed him to access a separate Bitcoin account holding $700,000 stolen from the Silk Road case after he had already been sentenced to 71 months for his initial crimes.
