Ukrainian government officials sanctioned by US Treasury over alleged support to Russia

The U.S. Treasury Department has imposed sanctions barring current and former Ukrainian government officials from owning any property or doing any business in the U.S. after allegedly helping Russia destabilize the Ukrainian government, ZDNet reports. Current Ukrainian Parliament members Taras Kozak and Oleh Voloshyn, as well as former Deputy Secretary of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council Vladimir Sivkovich and former official Volodymyr Oliynyk have allegedly cooperated with Russia's Federal Security Service to shape public opinion in an effort to enable Russia easily obtain control over Ukraine's critical infrastructure. The FSB also allegedly received assistance from Oliynyk to secure critical infrastructure data. "The United States is taking action to expose and counter Russia's dangerous and threatening campaign of influence and disinformation in Ukraine. We are committed to taking steps to hold Russia accountable for their destabilizing actions," said Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo. More sanctions are expected should Russia continue its invasion of Ukraine, according to the U.S.
