Man gets 135 months in federal prison for child exploitation offenses

A 45-year-old man from Sterling, N.Y., was sentenced on June 5 to 135 months in federal prison for using the internet to attempt to entice minors to engage in unlawful sexual conduct with him, and for possessing child pornography.

Robert Stachura pleaded guilty earlier this year, admitting that he posted explicit ads on Craigslist with the intention of meeting up with minors for sexual activities and smoking marijuana, according to a release.

After an undercover investigator in the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office responded to one of the ads, Stachura arranged a meeting for sex with who he believed was a 15-year-old and a 13-year-old. The Cayuga County Sheriff's Office arrested him and seized his computers, on which there were 43 videos and three images of child pornography.

Stachura's sentence is followed by 20 years of supervised release, and he must register as a sex offender.
