NYC man robbed at gunpoint for $1,100 in Bitcoin

A New York man was robbed at gunpoint for $1,100 worth of Bitcoin last month. The 28-year-old victim was meeting a man who offered to buy the digital currency through a Craigslist ad, according to CNBC.

The buyer led the victim to his car, where another man was waiting in the backseat with a gun. The gunman ordered the victim to complete the electronic transfer. Once the transfer was made, the thieves stole the victim's cell phone and drove off, according to police. The case is still under investigation.

Another New York man was robbed in a similar manner for $8,500 worth of Bitcoin, $3,500 cash and his phone in January, according to the Observer.

New York State has recently passed legislation to regulate financial firms that deal with Bitcoin and other virtual currencies.
