xDedic underground marketplace may have been larger than expected

Kaspersky Lab researchers obtained evidence suggesting the xDedic underground marketplace may have been larger than previously thought.

Last week, Kaspersky researchers uncovered the hacker marketplace which had access to more than 70,000 compromised servers being sold on the Dark Web for around $6 per server, according to a June 20 blog post.

The xDedic site was taken down shortly after the researchers announced their findings.

A day after the announcement, an anonymous source from a Lithuanian IP address posted a comment on the researchers' blog containing links to pastebin accounts containing 176,000 unique records of IP addresses dating from October 2014 to February 2016, the blog said.

The anonymous source said the list of pastes is related to hacked servers from the xDedic marketplace.

Researchers said they can't confirm whether or not the information is valid but said system administrators of the listed IP addresses should carefully check if their servers were compromised.
