U.S. satellite networks constantly under attack, Air Force general says

Everyone from curious citizens to cyber criminals have been prodding U.S. satellite networks, according to a top Air Force cyber official.

“There's millions of probes every year into our networks, from every corner of the world,” said Gen. John Hyten, head of Air Force Space Command, during a Defense Writers Group breakfast. “Those probes come from everything, from nation states down to individuals just curious, down to criminal behavior.”

The Hill reported that Hyten said that facing these threats has forced his organization to increase its understanding of cyber liabilities.

“If you think you're safe in cyber, then when you wake up tomorrow everything's different; cyber changes that fast,” he said. “You can never feel comfortable in cyber because the threat tomorrow is going to be fundamentally different than the threat today, and it's unbelievable how fast it changes.
