UK’s Ministry of Justice website knocked offline by DDoS attack

The website of the UK's Ministry of Justice was taken offline for several hours as a result of a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack on Wednesday.

In a Twitter post, the government agency confirmed the attack: “Unfortunately the Justice website is down following a DDoS attack last night, we are working hard to bring it back online ASAP.”

According to a report on Softpedia, hacktivists took claim for the downtime, stating that they launched the assault because the agency did not express disapproval over the National Security Agency's (NSA) surveillance program. The website was brought back online after several hours.

The UK's Government Communications Headquarters' (GCHQ) website was also reportedly targeted by a DDoS the same day.
