Israeli political party’s website defaced, possibly as part of #OpIsrael

Days after hacktivist collective Anonymous warned Israeli companies and websites that it would begin its annual cyber attack campaign against the country on Tuesday, one Israeli political party's website was defaced.

The Meretz party's website content was replaced on Saturday night with anti-Israel rhetoric, reported Israel Hayom. Although Anonymous' attacks haven't officially begun, the posted content on behalf of the Palestininan people seemed to allude to the collective's stated goals.

In its #OpIsrael, Anonymous has said it will carry out an “electronic Holocaust,” by targeting government, bank and business websites.

The Anti-Defamation League issued its own warning to Israelis, saying the attacks could vary from previous years by targeting individuals on their mobile devices. The advocacy group also said AnonGhost, an international hacking group, could be the primary organizer of the campaign, as opposed to Anonymous.
