The U.S. Attorney's Office and FBI announced yesterday aguilty plea in a cyberstalking and “sextortion” case in which a Pennsylvaniaman harassed a Boston-area college student online.
James F. Connor V, 20, of West Chester, Penn., will undergosentencing on Apr. 7, 2016, after pleading guilty to one count of cyberstalking,which carries a maximum sentence of five years, and extortion, punishable up totwo years.
In 2002, Connor met the victim through social media andbegan engaging in explicit video chats on FaceTime, also coaxing her into sendingnaked pictures via Snapchat. The perpetrator later blackmailed the victim,threatening to distribute these images unless she broke up with her boyfriendand met his demands for additional photos and videos.
Conner used a telephone and text message spoofingapplication to conceal his identity. He was arrested in October 2015.
