Facebook has acquired voice recognition company wit.ai, the company announced this week. No details on the deal were made available.
The relatively new company, just 18 months old, makes voice recognition software for wearable technology as well as devices that connect to the internet.
In a Monday blog post, the Wit team noted an ongoing obsession “with building machines that understand human languages” and said it has worked to build “an open, distributed, community-based platform that makes it easy for developers to build apps that users can talk to” and which has attracted more than 6000 developers to date.
The acquisition by Facebook “is an incredible acceleration in the execution of our vision,” the blog post said, noting “the platform will remain open and become entirely free for everyone.”
