Privacy advocacy group Fight For the Future's campaign “Operation: #FaxBigBrother” has thus far generated 6.1 million faxes sent to members of the Senate to protest the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act (CISA).
The bill would allow the government to increase its surveillance and wouldn't prevent cyber attacks like the OPM breach, according to a release.
The goal of the group is to bombard senators with the "voices" of their constituents to urge them to vote against the bill.
Fight For The Future used two websites, www.faxbigbrother.com and www.stopcyberspying.com, to collect user-generated messages, during a "Week of Action,” the week before Senate goes on August recess. It then faxed out the messages using a dedicated server, a dozen phone lines and several modems capable of sending out tens of thousands of faxes per day.
