Panasonic reports cyberattack against Canadian operations

TechCrunch reports that Panasonic had some of its systems, networks, and processes compromised by a "targeted cybersecurity attack" against its Canadian operations in February, which comes less than six months after the company's most recent cyberattack. The Conti ransomware gang has claimed to steal more than 2.8GB of data from Panasonic Canada, with internal files, spreadsheets, and some documents seemingly from the company's accounting and human resources departments shared in Conti's data leak site, according to VX-Underground. Since the discovery of the attack, Panasonic has worked to address the intrusion with its service providers and cybersecurity experts, said company spokesperson Airi Minobe. "Since confirming this attack, we have worked diligently to restore operations and understand the impact to customers, employees, and other stakeholders. Our top priority is continuing to work closely with affected parties to fully mitigate any impacts from this incident," Minobe said. Panasonic has not disclosed whether a ransom demand has been made by the attackers.
